# Bilingual Mode

> Let your AI receptionist switch languages automatically when a caller speaks Spanish, French, Hindi, or Portuguese.

## Supported Languages

Your AI receptionist supports five languages:

| Language   | Coverage               |
| ---------- | ---------------------- |
| English    | Full support (default) |
| Spanish    | Full support           |
| French     | Full support           |
| Hindi      | Full support           |
| Portuguese | Full support           |

## How Bilingual Mode Works

When bilingual mode is enabled, your AI:

1. **Listens** to the caller's first few words
2. **Detects** the language automatically
3. **Switches** to that language for the rest of the call
4. **Handles everything** in the detected language — greetings, questions, bookings, lead capture

The caller does not need to press any buttons or choose a language. It just works.

<Info>
  Your AI uses ElevenLabs multilingual voices, which naturally support all five languages with proper pronunciation and intonation.

## Setting Up Bilingual Mode

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Receptionist Settings">
    Click **Receptionist Settings** in the left sidebar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the Language section">
    Scroll to the language settings area.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your secondary language">
    Your primary language is set automatically. Use the **Secondary Language** dropdown to choose which additional language to support.

    For example, if your primary language is English and you choose Spanish, your AI will answer in English by default but switch to Spanish when it detects a Spanish-speaking caller.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. The change takes effect on the next call.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  If most of your customers speak one language, set that as your primary. The secondary language is for the occasional caller who prefers a different language.
</Tip>

## What Stays in English

Even when your AI is speaking in another language, certain things stay in English behind the scenes:

* **Lead data** — names, emails, phone numbers are stored as-is
* **Appointment details** — service names, dates, and times in your dashboard
* **Function call values** — the data sent to your calendar, CRM, and integrations

This means your dashboard, reports, and integrations always work consistently regardless of what language the call was in.
